Cheney & McCain, Two of a Kind

With the left’s unprecedented push to impeach the outgoing Pres. Trump before any evidence is heard or even presented other than “Orange Man Bad”, Congresswoman Liz Cheney jumped on the bandwagon to vote for impeachment, thinking no doubt that she’d get a bit of a jump on being “Liked” by the incoming democrat party but she sorely underestimated her constituents in her home state. Indeed, the left is thrilled to have another ‘maverick, aka John McCain’ who voted as often with the democrats as he did the Republican Party he supposedly supported. Ms. Cheney seems a shoe-in to be the left’s new darling…Her phrase that “it’s not political” is a foolish statement. Of COURSE it’s political. It’s one thing for people within our party to disagree with one another but we still need to have a united front AS CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS, not leftist sycophants trying to get your name out there.

Is it possible that we might review President George Washington’s Farewell Address in which he stridently warned against factions/parties, aka Team Republican or Team Democrat or Team Libertarian or even Team CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN?

The fury of the “spirit of party” is one of the primary dangers about which he warned us when he said, “The unity of government…is a main pillar in the edifice of your real independence…much pains will be taken, many artifices employed to weaken in your minds the conviction of this truth; as [unity of government] is the point in your political fortress against which the batteries of internal and external enemies will be most constantly and actively (though often covertly and insidiously) directed… [t]he name of American, which belongs to you in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism….However [parties or factions] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government…{The spirit of party] serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions” (Taken from paragraphs 9, 10, and 24)

Might I suggest that rather than beat our chests and cheer for our team, aka party, we embrace President Washington’s solution of unity which is apparent in his statement that “[t]he name American…must always exalt the just pride of patriotism”. How about we not only be “America First” but we be Americans first by being unified in our government?

To that end how would readers of Wyoming Conservative Letters define what being an American is AND what ideas are brought to your mind by President Washington’s phrase “unity of government”?

Susan, it is hard to take the Democrats seriously when they call for unity on the one hand and then are trying to impeach a President who is no longer in office. HUGE HYPOCRITES!
